Jonah's respiratory rate was increasing. His pulse was climbing. He felt claustrophobic inside the tight fitting OBA, and he was beginning to think he might puke. Oh, God, no! Please, no! Don’t let me puke inside this mask! Easy there. Calm down. Get yourself to the deck plates in one piece. Go down slowly. Slowly is better than falling quickly. With every step down the ladder he came closer to the heat and the flames. He could feel the temperature in the trunk rising with each step down. His chest was heaving, his heart felt as if it was about to jump into his throat, but he continued down, down through the deadly smoke-filled escape trunk toward hell.
